What You’ll Learn

Camera Basics: Understand the main functions of DSLR, mirrorless, bridge, and compact cameras, with a focus on ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, or anything else you’d like to know more about.

Composition Techniques: Learn how to frame and compose stunning shots.

Editing Essentials: Get an introduction to Photoshop, from importing images to editing and exporting for online sharing.

What type of camera do I need for a photography lesson?

All camera types are welcome. If you’re uncertain about your equipment, feel free to contact me for guidance.

Where do the courses take place?

All courses are conducted outdoors across various scenic locations in South-East Essex, including Old Leigh, Southend Sea Front, Southend Pier, Leigh Broadway, Hadleigh Castle, and The Garrison in Shoeburyness.

Do you offer photography course gift vouchers?

Are the courses suitable for under 18s?

Certainly! I teach children aged 12 and above. However, minors must be accompanied by an adult, and you’re welcome to join the lesson too.

  • Southend Pier: Capture the allure of the world’s longest pleasure pier in Southend-on-Sea, especially during golden hours. Whether the photos are taken on the Pier, under the Pier or at the end of Southend Pier there’s lots of angles to work during a photography lesson.

  • Old Leigh: Dive into the historic charm of this fishing village, with its quaint cottages and bustling cockle sheds. There’s also some great pubs providing amazing backdrops (and good spots for a snack and a drink). 

  • Thorpe Bay: Perfect for serene beach shots and exploring the coastal beauty of Thorpe Bay sea front. Connecting Southend to the coast at Shoeburyness.

  • Hadleigh Castle: A short walk along the coast from Leigh-on-Sea, are the ruins of Hadleigh Castle, a great spot for panoramic landscapes, views of the sunset, and of course photographs of the ruins themselves.

  • Southend Sea Front: Strictly speaking I think it’s a river front, but it still gives amazing views of the mouth of the River Thames, along with plenty of opportuities for streeet photography with different characters and lots of dogs to snap!
